Located close to the quiet village of Satterthwaite, on the edge of Grizedale Forest, Force Mill Barn offers spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation in the heart of the stunning Lake District National Park. Named after the waterfall by which it sits, where the gentle Grizedale beck turns into a powerful ’force’, Force Mill Barn is one of three dwellings that once formed part of the old mill. Spread over three-storeys, this comfortable home from home with its contemporary layout is perfect for couples, families and friends who like to socialise but at the same time also enjoy having their own space. Enter the property on the ground floor into the hallway where you will find a well-appointed bathroom with a corner bath, as well as a master super kingsize bedroom with Freeview TV and a seating area. Two sets of stairs can be found in the hallway, one leading to the first floor and one to the lower ground floor. The first floor boasts an open plan living space with high ceilings a well-equipped kitchen area, dining area and living area with sumptuous sofas to curl up on, perfect for relaxing, reading or watching TV. Venture down to the lower ground floor where you will find a bright twin bedroom and a stylish shower room.
Force Mill Barn is approximately one mile from the sleepy village of Satterthwaite, where you will find a pub serving good beer, hearty grub and hosting the occasional festival and live music events. Satterthwaite is located between Coniston Water to the west and Lake Windermere to the east, where the Rusland Valley meets the southern borders of Grizedale Forest. The Forestry Commission has made huge creative efforts in converting this mighty, ancient woodland into a fantastic recreational area. There is an open air art gallery, where hundreds of sculptural pieces can be found, along with many marked trails offering plenty of walking opportunities, including the introduction of the tarmacked Ridding Wood Trail, ideal for less mobile guests. At the heart of the forest is the visitor centre where you can pick up a map with all the information you need to make the most of your woodland adventure. There is an information desk, shop, café, gallery, a children’s play area and bicycle hire. There are many trails for both walking and mountain biking including the Silurian Way. Why not visit Go Ape, where you can swing through the trees, cross rope bridges and scramble nets before ending with a zip wire ride.
Over the fells is the little village of Hawkshead, with its timber framed buildings, pubs and a variety of gift shops. Also nearby is Coniston Water, overshadowed by the Old Man of Coniston it is perhaps one of the more friendly of the big southern lakes. At the boating centre you can hire rowing, sailing and motor powered boats, or take a trip on a traditional steamer. There is also plenty of open shoreline where you can fish, swim or simply enjoy a picnic. Between the forest and the lake there are plenty of walking and outdoor activities to fill your days, all within easy reach. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant 1 mile.
