Set in open countryside with walks from the door, Broughton Lodge Cottage has a very quiet and extremely peaceful situation, except for perhaps the odd duck quacking from the nearby stream! The drive down the narrow country lanes to the cottage through sheep dotted, quintessentially Lakeland, fields makes it hard to imagine you've just left the M6 a few minutes earlier. The medieval village of Cartmel with its' good traditional pubs serving local ales and homemade food, as well as the renowned L'Enclume restaurant for special occasions, is within easy walking distance (about a mile) and is experiencing increased popularity in the off season as well as during the famous race meeting weeks. Lake Windermere and its attractions are within 15 minutes drive.
Broughton Lodge Cottage is simply charming. When refurbishing this 18th Century property much thought was given to ensuring original features were retained and that when providing modern conveniences, a traditional feel was kept. The cottage displays a terrific stone flagged floor in the lounge and that all important wood burning stove. Offering stunning views of the South Lakeland District fells and countryside, Cartmel is easily accessible, with its winding streets, pretty cottages, whitewashed houses and medieval buildings leading to the village square. The village offers visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, and eateries.
Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings providing, as they have for centuries, friendly inns, well stocked shops and private dwellings. It is also home to Britain’s smallest National Hunt racecourse and the National Trust attraction of Cartmel Priory Gatehouse, a historically important building situated in the heart of the village.
Occupying one of the most attractive spots in the area, Grange-over-Sands looks out across the expansive sands of Morecambe Bay, a rich feeding ground for many species of birds that take advantage of the great climate in the area. It is easily accessible from the Lake District (Lake Windermere is only seven miles away) and towns such as Kendal are also just a short drive from here.
There is much to do and see on the Peninsular from golf , horse riding and fishing to hot air ballooning and parachuting! There also a good number of great walks, plus many places of historical interest.
