Description

Nestling in a tranquil position in the picturesque Winster Valley, this gorgeous, detached holiday cottage sits within 1½-acres of enclosed gardens in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Offering the perfect blend of style and classic charm, it sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms, and is ideal for families and friends who want to enjoy a taste of country life and explore the areas many attractions.
In an oasis of calm, Arndale Cottage enjoys plenty of inside living space, and has two living rooms (one with a wood burner and the other with an open fire), a farmhouse-style kitchen with dining table and Aga and a conservatory room leading onto the terrace for al fresco dining. It also has superfast fibre Wi-Fi internet, HD televisions (one ultra HD) and Netflix (including kids packages) for entertainment.
The cottage is aptly named after the stream, Arndale Beck, which meanders its way along the garden boundary. The surrounding scenery is simply stunning and a haven for wildlife including hares, red deer, owls and herons which make regular visits, as well as buzzards soaring up above. The cottage is not disturbed by traffic noise as it sits on a quiet, single road track, yet it is only 4 miles from bustling Windermere and 9 miles (less than 20 minutes by taxi) from the nearest train station at Oxenholme, which connects with London and Glasgow via the West Coast Line. Windermere is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Lake District offering a good choice of shops, attractions, water sports and eateries. Within a 2-mile walk are four very good pubs serving locally sourced good food and ales. For wildlife enthusiasts, the Barkbooth Nature Reserve is just a 5-minute walk from the cottage, where you will see a vast array of flora and fauna including rare species of dragonflies and butterflies.
Spend your days sitting on the terrace soaking up the peace and tranquillity that surrounds it, hop on your bike or lace up your walking boots and discover the beauty of the area up close. Whether you choose to relax, be active or explore, Arndale Cottage offers all the right ingredients for a memorable holiday in the Lake District. Beach 11 miles. Shop, pubs and restaurant 2 miles.

About the local area

Bowness-on-Windermere is one of the most popular locations in the Lake District. Situated midway down Lake Windermere, a long promenade skirts the lake with views over a busy harbour where pleasure cruisers arrive and depart taking visitors up and down the lake.

The town has a vibrant, bustling atmosphere, especially in the summer months and a superb lakeside setting with lovely views across and down the lake. A car ferry runs to the far side of the lake taking visitors to Sawrey and Hawkshead or you can take a trip on one of the steamers north to Ambleside or south to Lakeside.

There is plenty to see and do including the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Steamboat Museum, as well as an 18 hole `pitch and put' and sailing marinas. Bowness provides a good selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants as well as a wide range of shops, all within easy reach.
