Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens

On the outskirts of Keswick is the grand historic home known as Mirehouse built in 1666 by The Earl of Derby. Many idyllic gardens surround the building providing you with a variety of gardens to explore, from an orchard of traditional Cumbrian fruit trees to a wild flower meadow. The Old Sawmill Tearoom is also a delight to experience with amazing Cumbrian cooking and a selection of homemade cakes and puddings. This hidden gem near Keswick is a perfect relaxing place to visit whilst on your holiday.

The ground floor of the building is open to the public, allowing you to wander and take in the wonderful collection of furniture and artwork. The house owners are often around to welcome and talk to visitors adding a personal touch to your visit.

For children, there are owl hunts and history quizzes as well as numerous playgrounds which each have their own special element ranging from forest castles to steeple chases. A family nature trail is also available, an exciting trail through the woods and gardens at Mirehouse with a chance to spot the red squirrels.
